If you’re interested in purchasing a motorhome, you’re not alone. In the United States particularly, motorhomes are popular recreational vehicles. Owners use them for traveling, for camping – even for temporary living. No matter what your motivation for buying a motorhome, know what to look for when you shop.
New or Used?
Should you purchase a new motorhome or a used one? This is one of the first questions you’ll need to answer. Owning a new model is exciting-you’re the first real owner, and everything’s shiny and pristine; however, new RVs can be extremely expensive. If your finances are limited, it may be best to buy used.
Setting a Budget
Before you shop, it’s a good idea to determine just how much you’re willing to spend. As you’re calculating, don’t forget to factor in additional costs, such as taxes, insurance, fuel, bedding, kitchen items and other gear.
Once you’ve set your budget, let it narrow your search. For example, if $20,000 is your limit, don’t look at any vehicles over that price. This will save you time, and you won’t be tempted to go over budget.
Because motorhomes come in so many sizes, shapes and styles and because so many financing options are available, it shouldn’t be difficult for you to find one you can afford.
Comparison Shopping
As you shop, take notes on the models that interest you. You’ll probably be looking at a large number of RVs, and you want to keep them straight! Once you’re home, you can research the ones you’ve selected by performing an internet search using each motorhome’s year, make and model. This will provide with additional useful information, including customer experiences. You can also find out if any of the pre-owned RVs you’re interested in have been recalled.
Choosing a Seller
When buying a new or used motorhome, it’s always best to buy locally. If that’s impossible, you may find yourself shopping on the internet. Many dealerships have websites as do many individual sellers. There are also online classifieds and auction websites where you may find a motorhome you want to purchase.
If you do purchase online, it’s best not to buy sight unseen. If at all possible, visit the motorhome in person after looking at pictures and reading detailed descriptions online. You should also select a motorhome that will be easy for you pick up or have delivered.
Selecting Features
Motorhomes today commonly contain bathrooms, kitchens, dining tables, sleeping areas and small entertainment systems. The elaborateness and size of these features often depends upon the motorhome’s size. Very large RVs, for example, may have full-size kitchens as well as sleeping rooms and showers. Before you buy, consider what you need as well as what you want.
Keep the above points in mind as you shop-and remember, take time to look at both new and used models. You never know what great deals you’ll find.
